Due to the blogs and Twitter feeds I follow, it has become a rare occurrence for me to ‘discover’ a magazine cover on an actual newsstand. Instead, I’ll often see a new cover for the first time on the likes MagCulture, CoverJunkie, NasCapas, etc.
So it was that much sweeter to see the latest issue of Port for the first time, sitting proud, on the shelf in my favourite newsies. No cover lines. No eye contact. Just a great shot of a magnetic subject and a fantastic masthead. I love it. I’ll admit, I was thrown for a moment, thinking that it was perhaps a subscriber-only edition but it stands out and screams must-own.

Can’t wait to see what Jony Ive has in store for iOS7.

Michel Gondry AND Audrey Tautou? Oh, yes please. I do love me some Gallic whimsy.
I love the concept behind this Rolling Stone cover, but being an art director and comic book geek myself, I can’t help but help feel they should have taken the idea further.
Had it been given the full Golden Age treatment, with halftone fills, more accurate lettering, and had Tracy as Bizarro, it’d be a safe bet for my Favourite Cover of 2013 (yes, even in the second week of January).
Still, Ms. Fey makes for a mighty fine Lois.
Gorgeous Jaws poster by Laurent Durieux for Mondo.
The chance of being able to grab one before they all sell out? Extremely slim to none.
Steven Soderbergh’s films tend to have great posters to accompany them, and ‘Side Effects’ is no different. A clever little riff on a US prescription form.
